Even if you can’t drive yourself, you could still get a car on the Motability scheme by nominating a family member, guardian or your carer as your driver. You should have received an Award Notice with details of your allowance from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people between the ages of 16 and 64, even those with an "indefinite" or "lifetime" award. Disabled children will continue to receive DLA until they reach the age of 16. DLA will also continue to be available for those who were aged 65 or over on 8 April 2013 (20 June 2016 in Northern Ireland). If you are awarded the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP, you will continue to be able to lease a car through the Motability Scheme.
